Who Qualified for the Cash App $15M Settlement

The eligibility window and the reasons most claims were rejected.

Who Qualified for the Cash App $15M Settlement

Only about 40,380 out of roughly 667,000 filed claims were approved — so eligibility clearly tripped a lot of people up. Here's exactly who qualified, and the reasons claims got thrown out.

The eligibility window

To qualify, you had to be a Cash App or Cash App Investing customer at some point between August 23, 2018 and August 20, 2024. That six-year window is the class period — the dates the lawsuit covers. If your account activity happened outside those dates, you weren't in the class, no matter what happened to you.

What had to happen to you

Being a customer during the window wasn't enough on its own. You also had to have experienced one of these:

  • Unauthorized account access — someone got into your Cash App account without your permission.
  • A fraudulent transfer — money moved out of your account by someone who shouldn't have been able to.
  • An unresolved account error — a disputed transaction or account problem that Cash App never properly fixed after you reported it.

That "unresolved" part matters. If Cash App fixed your problem when you reported it, that incident probably didn't qualify. The settlement was aimed at people whose complaints went nowhere.

The claim deadline

You had to submit a valid claim form by November 18, 2024. This is where a lot of potential claimants lost out — the deadline was hard, and late claims weren't accepted. If you're reading this in late 2026 wondering whether you can still file: no, you can't. The window is closed for good.

Why so many claims were rejected

With roughly 667,000 claims filed and only ~40,380 approved, most rejections came down to a few common problems:

  • No documentation of loss. If you claimed out-of-pocket losses, you generally needed to back them up — bank statements, receipts, screenshots. Memory alone wasn't enough.
  • Outside the class period. Plenty of people filed for incidents that happened after August 20, 2024, or before August 2018.
  • No qualifying event. Being a Cash App user who once got a weird login alert — without an actual unauthorized transfer or unresolved error — didn't qualify.
  • Duplicate or incomplete forms. Missing fields, mismatched names, or filing twice slowed or killed claims.
  • Deficiency notices ignored. The administrator sent notices to claimants whose forms had problems. If you didn't respond in time, your claim was denied.

If your claim was denied

A denial isn't always the end of the road — there's a process, and our guide to denials and scams explains what steps you can take and what your realistic options are.

What approved claimants get

If you were in the class and your claim was approved, your payout depends on what you lost and what you documented. Awards run up to $2,500 in out-of-pocket losses, plus up to 3 hours of lost time at $25/hour, plus reimbursement for certain transaction losses. The full breakdown is in our payout calculation guide — and if you're approved, the money is arriving now via Venmo, Zelle, prepaid card, or check.
